A postcard: Greetings from Geiranger
The one we sent home.

We had planned for rain. We got four days of it, then a week of the kind of light that makes you stop the car every ten minutes. The dogs took it in turns to be unimpressed.

The canoe was borrowed from a farmer near Geiranger who would not take money, only a promise to send him the photos. These are those photos.

Next time: fewer layers, more film, and a bigger tent.

On a computer this is a whole browser to play with. Here’s the ring: touch and drag toward an option.

How it works

Your hand stays on the picture.

No right-click menus, no “Save image as…” and no tab to convert it in. Drag, tap, choose.

The original, not the thumbnail.

Google Images, Pinterest, X, Reddit and most shops show you a small copy. Halo finds the full-size file behind it, and saves it as PNG, JPG, WebP or PDF if your apps won’t open the format it came in.

Video that actually saves.

Most videos aren’t a file: they stream in pieces. Halo rebuilds the video from the pieces the page already loaded, joins the sound and picture, and hands you one MP4 that plays everywhere. Or just the frame you’re on, or just the sound.

Fix it before you save it.

Tap ⌥ for the tools. Crop, edit, redact, annotate, put it on a background or make it smaller; trim, split or speed up a video. Each opens in a small window right on the page, and Save applies it to the full-size original.

The puppy, its background removedRemove BG

No background. No upload.

Tap ⌘ for AI. Remove a background, copy the text out of a screenshot, or upscale a small image, all on your computer. That puppy is what Halo’s on-device model made of the photo above.

Frames and transcripts, even on YouTube.

Grab the frame you’re looking at, at full resolution. On YouTube, save or copy the transcript, get its key points or read it in your language with Chrome’s built-in AI, or copy a link to this exact moment.

Questions

Does it download YouTube videos?

No. YouTube doesn’t allow it. On YouTube, Halo saves frames and transcripts, copies a link at the current time, and opens YouTube’s own Clip tool.

What counts as a use?

Each save or copy, from the ring or a tool window. Opening the ring or a window, link actions (Open, Copy link, Lens) and cloud tools (they use credits) don’t count, and nor does a save that fails.

Are my pictures uploaded when I edit them?

No. Crop, Redact, Annotate, Trim and the other tools work inside your browser, and so do Remove BG, Copy text and Upscale 2×. Only the cloud tools, marked ✦, send anything: the one picture, or a video’s sound, that you chose them for.

What are AI credits?

They pay for the cloud tools (✦): a sharper cut-out is ✦1, a 4× upscale ✦2, a transcript ✦1 a minute. A licence comes with 100; more are 100 for $5, or 500 for $19, and they never expire. A tool that fails gives its credits back.

Do I need an account?

No. You get a licence key by email; paste it into Halo. That’s all.

Can I use it on another computer?

Yes: one key unlocks Halo in up to 3 browsers. Deactivate one in Halo to free a slot.

Does it work on protected video, like Netflix?

No. Halo doesn’t touch DRM.

Which browsers?

Chrome, and browsers that install from the Chrome Web Store, like Edge, Brave and Arc.

Drag it. Tap Shift.
